LITTLE ITALY — Violent winds from Sunday night's storm uprooted trees in Little Italy, including at Arrigo Park and other areas in the neighborhood.

Trees in Arrigo park and in the nearby 1300 block of West Lexington Street were uprooted Sunday night and neighbors were cleaning up damage Monday.

Huge trees were also uprooted across the street from Arrigo and at Westgate Terrace townhome complex on Flournoy, smashing cars and causing roof damage to at least one unit.

The massive storm also damaged the Blue Line Medical District stop's platform canopy, causing it to collapse. The platform of the Near West Side L stop was struck by lightning Sunday, causing an explosion at the track level, but service was back to normal Monday.

Wind from the violent storm also destroyed two cars in Pilsen and uprooted trees and damaged roofs in Wicker Park and Bucktown.

The Blue Line has returned to normal service after damage caused by a massive storm Sunday night caused the collapse of the Medical District stop's platform canopy.
