5 Killed, 43 Wounded In Weekend Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — Five people were killed and another 43 were wounded between Friday and early Sunday, police said.

Gregory Chacon, 19, was shot to death in Brighton Park Sunday afternoon.

A 57-year-old police employee shot a man who was trying to rob him early Monday morning, police said.

At 1:10 a.m. Monday, a 14-year-old girl was walking with a group in the 6800 block of South Perry Avenue in Englewood when someone in the group pulled out a gun and shot at her, according to a police incident report.

The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound in the left side of her forehead, police said. Police could not provide her condition but said she was "stable."

In other shootings:

• At 2:25 a.m., a 44-year-old man was driving east on 119th Street near Lafayette Avenue in West Pullman when someone pulled up in a black SUV and shot at him, police said.

The man was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was "stable" with a gunshot wound in his left shin, police said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• At 2:24 a.m., three men were sitting in a car in the 3500 block of Indiana Avenue in Bronzeville when someone pulled up alongside them in a black SUV and shot at them, according to a police incident report.

One man, 39, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his head and left leg, police said.

Two other men, both 32, were brought to Mercy Hospital, where they were both "stable," police said. One man was shot in his shoulder and the other was shot in his hand.

• At 1:33 a.m., a 35-year-old man was driving south in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue in Bronzeville when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

The man was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound in his left thigh, police said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• At 11:55 p.m. Sunday night, three teens were walking on the sidewalk in the 6800 block of South Perry Avenue — the same Englewood block where the 14-year-old girl was shot — when they heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

All three teens were taken to St. Bernard's Hospital, where they were listed as "stable, police said.

A 19-year-old man had been shot in his right shoulder and right thigh, police said. A 17-year-old was shot in his left leg, and another 17-year-old was shot in his buttocks.

• At 10:43 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing in an alley in the 1300 block of North Sawyer Avenue in Humboldt Park when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed as "stable" with a gunshot wound in his right leg, police said.

• At 10:35 p.m., a 21-year-old man was standing in the 300 block of South Kildare Avenue in North Lawndale when someone shot at him from a black sedan, police said. 

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his right shoulder and armpit, police said.

• At 8 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing in the 8500 block of South Ashland Avenue in Auburn Gresham when a man walked up and shot at him, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, Sweeney said.

Police said the shooting may have been part of an attempted robbery.

• At 7 p.m, a 27-year-old man was in the 10300 block of South Michigan Avenue in Roseland when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Sweeney said.

The man was brought to Roseland Hospital, where he was "stable" with a gunshot wound in his left side, Sweeney said.

• At 4:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his side in the 7800 block of South Hamilton Avenue in Auburn Gresham, Sweeney said.

The man brought himself to Holy Cross Hospital, and he was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Sweeney said.

• At 2:20 p.m., a 27-year-old man was in a backyard in the 1800 block of West 48th Street in Back of the Yards when someone shot at him from a passing car, Sweeney said.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital, where he was "stable" with a gunshot wound in his foot and a graze wound in his chest, Sweeney said.

No one is in custody, police said.

Two men were killed and 10 were wounded between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

Before that, two people were killed and 16 were wounded between Friday morning and Saturday morning.
