LINCOLN SQUARE — Nearly 60 percent of restaurants don't make it past the three-year mark and the Last Pit Stop may be the latest casualty of this depressing statistic.

On Monday, the doors at 1964 W. Lawrence Ave. were locked, the "Closed" sign was lit and there were no staff on site. Diners last reported the barbecue joint open on July 9.

An automated message from the phone company stated that the restaurant's number had changed. A call placed to the new digits received a response of "Wrong number" from the man who answered on the other end.

The Last Pit Stop's Facebook page hasn't been updated since Feb. 5.

The Last Pit Stop was a relative newcomer to Lincoln Square, opening in 2014 in the former home of George's Deli. But Calvin Woods, a partner in the restaurant, was well known to area diners as the pitmaster at Smokin' Woody's.

Meanwhile, neighbors are wondering whether the plywood barrier erected around the facade of the shuttered Costello's means something new is coming to 4647 N. Lincoln Ave.

A permit issued July 14 shows that at the moment, the owner is simply replacing the storefront window and making repairs to the roof. Stay tuned.

A pair of other "coming soon" establishments are now in hiring mode: La Boulangerie bakery and cafe at 1945 W. Wilson Ave. posted job openings on Facebook, and Bangers & Lace held an open call for its new Roscoe Village location, 1851 W. Addison St., in June.
