7 Dead, 55 Wounded In Weekend Gun Violence, Police Say

CHICAGO — Weekend shootings left seven people dead and 55 others wounded since Friday afternoon, according to police.

Three people were killed and 14 were wounded since Sunday, police said. Of the 17 shot Sunday, 11 were in West Side neighborhoods, including six shot in Austin, according to police.

An 18-year-old man was killed and a 33-year-old man wounded in an Austin attack late Sunday, police said. At 7:40 p.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was killed and another 20-year-old man wounded in an Austin shooting.

A shooting in Englewood early Sunday claimed the life of Chureno Gatewood, 18, of Gary., Ind., according to police.

Three were killed and 22 wounded in shootings on Saturday, police said. On Friday, one person died and 19 were wounded in shootings.

In non-fatal shootings:

•  A 33-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were wounded in an East Garfield Park attack Sunday, police said. 

The men were in the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street at 11:05 p.m. when they were shot. The 33-year-old was shot in both hips and the 37-year-old man was struck in his left leg, police said. Both went to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were "stable," police said. 

• At 8:30 p.m. Sunday, a 41-year-old man was shot in Austin, police said.

• A 21-year-old man was wounded in a South Shore shooting Sunday night, according to police.

He was in the 7400 block of South Kimbark Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when he was shot in both hips, police said, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

• A 17-year-old was shot in Humboldt Park Sunday evening, police said.

• A 24-year-old man was wounded in a North Lawndale shooting, police said.

He was on a front porch in the 4300 block of West Grenshaw Street at 5:35 p.m. Sunday when a dark-colored minivan pulled up and someone inside fired a gun, police said. The man was grazed in his head and got himself to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

• An Englewood shooting wounded a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, police said.

They were in the 200 block of West 59th Street at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday when shots rang out, police said. The 24-year-old was struck in his left leg and the 23-year-old was struck in his right leg, police said.

Both were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was wounded in a Chatham shooting, police said.

The man was in 8100 block of South Normal Avenue when someone on a motorcycle fired shots at him and fled. He was hit in the groin and leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition, police said.

• A 26-year-old man was wounded in a West Garfield Park shooting at noon Sunday, police said.

He was in the 3600 block of West Van Buren Avenue when he was shot in the chest and abdomen, police said, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

• A 25-year-old man was shot in Austin late Sunday morning, police said.

• A 27-year-old man was wounded in Auburn Gresham early Sunday, police said.

He was standing in the 800 block of West 76th Street at 10:10 a.m. when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the shoulder, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.
