Austin Shootings Kill 2, Wound 4 Since Sunday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two men died and four others were wounded in separate shootings in Austin since Sunday morning, according to police.

The first deadly attack came at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, when a 20-year-old man was killed and another 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting, police said.

The two men were sitting in a car in the 500 block of North Lavergne Avenue when they were shot, police said. Their car came to a stop in the 100 block of North Lavergne Avenue, where police found them, police said.

One of the men was shot in the head and pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Carlos Harding, of the 4900 block of West Superior Street.

The other 20-year-old was shot in his right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him stable.

Both men are documented gang members, police said.

Later, an 18-year-old man was killed and a 33-year-old man was wounded in an Austin shooting at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The men were at a house party in the 5000 block of West Jackson Boulevard before they were shot, police said. The 18-year-old was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The man was identified as Artivis Gladney, of the 5000 block of West Jackson, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Gladney was pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m. An autopsy showed he died of multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

The 33-year-old man was shot in his chest and right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was no known but police said he was stable. The man is being uncooperative, police said.

Elsewhere, at 8:30 p.m., a 41-year-old man was wounded in an Austin shooting, police said.

He was in the 5300 block of West Harrison Street when someone in a black car opened fire, police said. The man was struck in his groin and leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not released but police said he was stable.

A 25-year-old man was also wounded in Austin at 11:25 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The man was in the 4900 block of West West End Avenue when shots rang out and he was hit in the chest, she said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

The shooting victim is a documented gang member and a convicted felon, police said.
