UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Two Chicago men suspected of carrying out two armed robberies in University Village have been arrested, the FBI announced Wednesday.

Michael Hayes, 54, of the 500 block of E. 77th St., and Tyrone Cole, 47, of the 7700 block of South Calumet Ave., were arrested without incident on Tuesday, according to Michael Anderson, special agent-in-charge of the FBI's Chicago office. Both are charged with two counts of felony armed robbery with a firearm for robbing two Halsted Street shops on campus earlier this month.

According to police, the men robbed a Subway at 1252 S. Halsted St., on June 7 and a 7-Eleven at 1350 S. Halsted St. on June 22.

The suspects were arrested off campus by UIC Police detectives after an investigation with Lincolnwood Police, Chicago Police and the FBI Chicago Violent Crimes Task Force, according to a UIC news alert.

Additional charges are pending related to recent robberies at other Chicago-area businesses, Anderson said.
