Two Halsted Shops Robbed At Gunpoint In University Village In Past 2 Weeks

UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Two Halsted Street shops were robbed in the middle of the day in University Village in the last month, UIC Police report. 

At about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, an armed robbery occurred inside of 7-Eleven at 1350 S. Halsted St., the University of Illinois at Chicago Police said in a crime alert. 

In the incident, a man entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the register. The man and a second man then took cash and fled southbound on Halsted. 

No one was injured in the incident, according to police. 

The first suspect is described as a black man, 20-25 years old, wearing a gray t-shirt, black pants, black baseball cap and black shoes. The second suspect is described as a black man, 30-35 years old and bald, wearing glasses, a black t-shirt, black shorts and white shoes.

Subway robbery 

Earlier this month, a Halsted Street sandwich shop was also robbed at gunpoint. 

At about 2:10 p.m. June 7, an armed robbery occurred inside Subway, 1252 S. Halsted St., according to UIC Police. 

In the incident, two people entered the restaurant, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the register. They took the cash and fled southbound on Halsted in a red Chevy Impala with an unknown license plate, police said.

The first suspect is described as a black male, 15-20 years old, about 5'3" tall, who was walking with a limp and wearing a grey t-shirt. The second is described as a black man, 45-50 years old, about 5'9" tall and wearing a grey long-sleeved t-shirt.

The UIC Police Department is conducting the follow-up investigation in both cases. Anyone with information is asked to call 312-996-2830.
