Man Found Dead Under 16th Street Viaduct in Pilsen Was Murdered

PILSEN — A homeless man found under a 16th Street viaduct in Pilsen died in February was murdered, the medical examiner's office confirmed this week. 

Responding to a call, police found a 50-year-old man unresponsive under the viaduct at 16th Street and Wolcott Avenue on Feb. 22. He was pronounced dead at the scene, suffering from a serious head injury. 

The man was identified as Jesus Reyes-Ortiz, 50, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Reyes-Ortiz suffered multiple blunt and sharp force injuries in a homicide, officials said this week. 

Area Central detectives continue to investigate the incident, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.
