Man Found Dead Under 16th Street Viaduct in Pilsen Identified

PILSEN — Police are investigating an unknown man's death after his body was found under a 16th Street viaduct in Pilsen on Monday afternoon. 

Responding to a call, police found the unknown man unresponsive under the viaduct at 16th Street and Wolcott Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The man suffered a serious head injury, according to a law enforcement source.

The man was identified as Jesus Reyes-Ortiz, 50, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Reyes-Ortiz was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m. of multiple blunt and sharp force injuries in a homicide.

A death investigation is being conducted by Area Central detectives, Sweeney said.
