PORTAGE PARK — North and Northwest Side residents looking for help from the federal government will have to head a bit farther west.

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, who represents Illinois' Fifth Congressional District, will open a new office Dec. 1 at 4345 N. Milwaukee Ave., near the Six Corners Shopping District.

Quigley's office at 3742 W. Irving Park Road in Irving Park will close Nov. 30 after being open for seven years in an effort to better meet the needs of residents in the sprawling district, his office said in a statement.

"I am hopeful this move will bring us closer to our constituents, helping to conveniently service them here at home," Quigley said.

Quigley's satellite office at 3223 N. Sheffield Ave. in Lakeview will remain in the same building, officials said.

Quigley's district includes much of the North and Northwest Sides of Chicago as well as western suburbs in Cook County.

A former member of the Cook County Board, Quigley was first elected to Congress in 2009 after former U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel resigned to become President Barack Obama's chief of staff. Emanuel was elected mayor of Chicago in 2011.
