20 People Wounded in Shootings Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Twenty people were wounded in shootings across the city Friday to Saturday morning, police say.

Not included in that number is a man who was shot by police officers after approaching them with a knife in hand, according to a police news release. He seemed unaffected after being tased twice before officers opened fire, police said.

In non-fatal shootings,

• Most recently, a 35-year-old man walked into Loretto Hospital at 5:45 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his chest and a graze wound to his elbow, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman. He was in critical condition and expected to be transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

The man was driving in the 4700 block of West Jackson Boulevard in Austin when a gray sedan pulled alongside him and someone inside the sedan fired, Sedevic said. He took himself to the hospital.

• At 3:50 a.m., two people were shot in the 6900 block of North Greenview Avenue in Rogers Park, Sedevic said.

• At 2:40 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot and injured in Humboldt Park, police said.

• At 2:25 a.m., a 37-year-old man was standing in the 7500 block of South Stewart Avenue in Englewood when someone walked up to him and shot at him, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his foot and his back was grazed. He was in listed as "stable" at St. Bernard Hospital, Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

The block is where a self-proclaimed "army of moms" was watching the neighborhood over the summer to prevent retaliatory shootings.

• At 2 a.m., two men were shot when they were sitting on a porch in the 4800 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Austin, Sedevic said. A 33-year-old man was shot in his buttocks and a 29-year-old man was grazed in the back of his leg. They are in good condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, she said.

• At 1:45 a.m., a man and woman were shot when they were walking on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street in Garfield Park, Sedevic said. A 47-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and took herself to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was in good condition.

A 19-year-old man was shot in his side three times and shot in his finger. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and was listed as "stable," Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

• At 1:40 a.m., a 26-year-old man was walking in the 7200 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago Lawn when people shot at him, Sedevic said. He was shot in his knee and torso and was in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

• At 1:35 a.m., a 35-year-old man was shot after seeing an argument between two men, Sedevic said. The victim was outside in the 7200 block of South Artesian Avenue in Chicago Lawn when he saw the men argue. One man took out a gun and fired at the victim, hitting him in his ankle. The victim was listed as "stable" at Holy Cross Hospital. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

• At 1:35 a.m., two men were walking near West Roosevelt Road and South Kostner Avenue in North Lawndale when two people walked up behind them and shot at them, Sedevic said. A 21-year-old man was shot in his back and leg and an 18-year-old man was shot in his foot. They are in good condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

• At 11:25 p.m. Friday, a man walked into Rush Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left ankle, Sedevic said. The man, whose age was not immediately available, was in good condition. He was shot in the 2600 block of South Hamlin Avenue in Little Village. No further information was available Saturday morning.

• At 10:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man was walking in the 3300 block of West Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said. He took himself to Stroger Hospital with a wound to his right foot, and he was listed in "stable" condition, Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 9:10 p.m., a 20-year-old man was riding his bike in the 700 block of East Pershing Road in Bronzeville when a man got out of a car and fired at him, Sedevic said. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital with a wound to his right thigh, and he was listed in "stable" condition, Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 8:05 p.m., a 61-year-old man was walking in the 1200 block of South Central Park Avenue in North Lawndale when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his lower right arm and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

• At 7:55 p.m., a 29-year-old man was in the 7800 block of South Drexel Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said. He was shot in his upper and lower right leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in "stable" condition, Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

• At 5:05 p.m., a 42-year-old man was driving in the 4000 block of West 83rd Street in Ashburn when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot, Sedevic said. The man's head was grazed and he was listed in "stable" condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sedevic said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

• At 3:50 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot and wounded in the South Loop.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

Unless otherwise noted, no one is in custody in the shootings.
