HUMBOLDT PARK — An officer shot and killed man after two tasers failed to take him down Friday night, according to police.

At 8:55 p.m. Friday, police were called to a home in the 900 block of North Central Park Ave. in Humboldt Park for a call of a man with a knife, according to a Chicago Police news release. Officers went into the home and saw a man holding what appeared to be a knife or sharp object, which they ordered him to drop.

The man, identified by Cook County medical examiners as 33-year-old James Anderson, ignored the officers and approached police "in a threatening manner," according to Chicago Police. An officer tased the man, but it had no effect. They told him to drop the knife and tased him again, but it still did not have an effect on the man.

Anderson then walked up to police while holding the knife and an officer shot at him, according to the news release. The man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound and a weapon was found.

He was later pronounced dead, police said.

There were no reported injuries to police, according to Chicago Police. The incident is under investigation.
