7 Killed, 47 Wounded in Weekend Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — Seven people were killed and 47 wounded in weekend shootings, including three people who were killed and 11 who were hurt in shootings since Sunday morning, police said.

Most recently, a 43-year-old man was found on the sidewalk in Roseland with a gunshot wound in his abdomen Sunday night. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and later died, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

At 8:20 p.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man was walking with a friend in Austin when he was shot, Sedevic said. He was later pronounced dead.

And At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, an 18-year-old man was shot in Auburn Gresham. He later died, Sedevic said.

In nonfatal shootings:

• At 1 a.m. Monday, a 23-year-old man was outside in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street in Back of the Yards when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said. The man had a graze wound on his hip and was in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

• At 12:15 a.m., a 53-year-old man was in a home in the 4200 block of West Thomas Street in Humboldt Park when he was wounded in a shooting, Sedevic said. The man's relative was outside on the porch when a person walked up and fired shots, police said.

The man inside the home suffered a graze wound and was treated at the scene, Sedevic said. There were no other reported injuries.

• At 11:50 p.m. Sunday, a 26-year-old man shot during a robbery in the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard in West Garfield Park, Sedevic said. The man was in the driver's seat of a parked car when the robbers walked up to him, told him they were robbing him and shot him in his arm.

The man was in good condition at West Suburban Medical Center with a wound in his arm, Sedevic said. The robbers ran away with the man's money.

• At 8:30 p.m., three people were shot during a drive-by in the 2600 block of West 84th Place in Ashburn, Sedevic said. The men were outside when someone in a silver minivan fired shots in their direction, police said.

A 19-year-old man was shot in his right leg and an 18-year-old man was shot in his buttocks, and both were "stable," Sedevic said. Another 18-year-old man suffered a graze wound on his face and walked into Little Company of Mary Hospital.

• At 6:50 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the 6600 block of West Chicago Avenue in Austin, Sedevic said. The man was walking outside when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot in his left thigh and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital.

• At 6:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was standing with a group of people in the 400 block of North Lawndale Avenue in East Garfield Park when a man walked up at shot at them, Sedevic said. The victim was shot in his buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

• At 3 p.m., a 19-year-old man got off a bus and walked to the 7500 block of South Blackstone Avenue in South Shore when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said. The man was shot in his lower back and taken to Jackson Park Hospital by a good Samaritan.

The man was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was "stable," Sedevic said.

• At 1:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was in the 7200 block of South Wolcott Avenue in Englewood when he said he crossed an alley and was struck by a bullet, Sedevic said. The man suffered a graze wound on his left cheek and took himself to Holy Cross Medical Center, where his condition was "stable," Sedevic said.

• At 11:15 a.m., a 29-year-old man was in the 3700 block of South Wells Street in Armour Square when he saw a person with a gun and ran but was shot twice in his left shoulder, Sedevic said. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shootings, Sedevic said.

There were 17 people wounded on Friday, and four people were killed and 19 wounded on Saturday.
