17 Wounded in Citywide Shootings Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Storms and flash flooding did not disrupt a wave of gun violence Friday, as 17 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago since early Friday, according to police.

Included in those wounded is a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were shot by a disgruntled patron of a Bronzeville restaurant early Friday, police said.

Two people were injured when gunmen opened fire while driving on the Dan Ryan expressway early Saturday, state and city police said.

• Most recently, a 24-year-old man was shot in Heart of Chicago early Saturday, according to Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. The man was a passenger in a car in the 2100 block of West Cullerton Avenue around 3:25 a.m. when a man on foot approached and opened fire, hitting the man in his left thigh, Estrada said. He was taken to University of Illinois Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said. The shooting may have been gang related, police said.

• A 25-year-old man and a 18-year-old woman were shot in Grand Crossing early Saturday, Estrada said. They were on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Maryland Avenue around 3:05 a.m. when a man in a black car opened fire, Estrada said. The 25-year-old man was shot in his thigh and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said. The 18-year-old woman was shot in her ankle, neck shoulder and hand and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in critical condition, he said.

• A 27-year-old man was shot in Englewood early Saturday, Estrada said.  He was on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of South Eggleston Street around 2:10 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 31-year-old man was seriously injured in a Humboldt Park shooting early Saturday, Estrada said. The man was discovered by a friend in the 2700 block of West Augusta Boulevard around 1:25 a.m. Saturday with wounds to his face, neck and abdomen, Estrada said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said. The man is a documented gang member, according to police.

• A 19-year-old man was shot in West Englewood late Friday, Estrada said. He was in the passenger seat of a car in the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue around 11:50 p.m. when a man on foot opened fire, Estrada said. The man was struck in his leg, right ankle and buttocks, Estrada said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• An 18-year-old man was shot in South Austin late Friday, Estrada said. He was walking in the 5900 block of West Augusta Boulevard around 11:05 p.m. when someone on foot opened fire, Estrada said. The man was hit in his right arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said.

• Three people were shot in Austin late Friday, Estrada said. The group was outside in the 400 block of South Central Avenue around 10:55 p.m. Friday when they heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said. A 31-year-old man was shot in his face, chest and abdomen and was taken to Loretto Hospital before being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said. A 38-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was driven to Loretto Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said. A 41-year-old was hit in his left ankle and right shoulder and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, he said.

• An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were shot in Brighton Park Friday, Estrada said. The men were in the 4300 block of South Campbell Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Friday when shots rang out, Estrada said. The 18-year-old man was shot in his leg and grazed in his head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said. The 20-year-old man was grazed in his back and taken to St. Anthony Hospital in good condition, he said.

• A 30-year-old man was shot in West Englewood Friday afternoon around 1:40 p.m., Estrada said. He was in the 6900 block of South Hermitage Avenue when he was shot in the leg, Estrada said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition, he said.

No arrests have been made.
