ROGERS PARK — Police were casing the scene after a shooting in the 1600 block of W. Juneway Terrace on Friday — just as they were doing on that date just one year earlier.

In that case, Glenford Johnson, 19, was fatally shot in the courtyard of an apartment building at 1662 West Juneway. After the incident, Ald. Joe Moore (49th) sent an email to residents describing Johnson as "allegedly one of the top leaders of a local street gang," but declined to say what Johnson's gang affiliation was.

Generally, a faction of the Gangster Disciples known as Loyalty Over Cash, or LOCs, tend to defend the area near Howard Street as their home turf, while feuding with rival GD faction Insane Cutthroat Gangsters, or ICGs, to the south.

Now, on the one-year anniversary of Johnson's death, the Tribune reported residents were out on the block that night displaying lit candles and bottles of alcohol on the sidewalk during a vigil to honor someone who had died one year earlier when shots rang out.

Linze Rice says it's been a violence stretch for the neighborhood:

The victims, a man, 24, and woman, 31, were driving in a car in the 1600 block of West Juneway Terrace around 11:10 p.m. Friday when someone shot at the car, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The shooting happened just south of Calvary Cemetery, near the intersection of Juneway and Paulina, about a block from the scene of Johnson's murder.

The man was hit in his right side and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition, Pacheco said. The woman was shot in her left hand and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in stable condition.

It was the seventh non-fatal shooting in Rogers Park in two weeks.
