PILSEN — The Original Gino's East, known for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza, plans to open a location in the Pilsen neighborhood, officials announced.

While an exact location or opening date have not yet been confirmed, officials said the new Pilsen location would have a special menu inspired by the recently opened Gino's East restaurant in Mexico City.

“We have completely fallen in love with the people, culture, and food of Mexico City,” said Noah Himmel, vice president and third generation of the family owners. “We’re excited to continue to expand Gino’s East globally and in our hometown Chicago.”

Gino’s East Pilsen will serve new menu items including: jumbo chicken wings al pastor; chipotle meatballs; a four queso fundido and Oaxaca Caprese salad. The Gino’s East Meaty Legend, currently loaded with Italian sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon and pepperoni will also feature chorizo at the Pilsen location.

Additional new pizza toppings will include: pork al pastor, nopales, esquites, grilled poblano peppers and habaneros.

The Original Gino's East opened in 1966 just off Michigan Avenue and Superior Street. The Chicago-based chain operates locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, and opened a Mexico City restaurant on July 15.
