Movies in the Park: 'Despicable Me' Shown at Sheridan Park Wednesday

NEAR WEST SIDE — Near West Side families can watch a kid-friendly flick for free under the nighttime sky in the neighborhood Wednesday night.

The animated movie "Despicable Me" will kick off at about 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Park, 910 S. Aberdeen St. The movie will begin promptly at dusk.

When criminal mastermind Felonious Gru uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds their love profoundly changes him for the better, according to the movie's description. Comedians Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand and others lend their voices to the minion movie.

"Despicable Me," released in 2010, is rated PG and runs 95 minutes. The movie screening is free and open to the public.

The event is made possible with help from Washington Federal Bank, the University Village Association and the Chicago Park District.
