One Man Dead, 10 Wounded in Shootings Since Friday Morning, Police Say

CHICAGO — Since Friday morning, one man has been killed and 10 people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago, police said.

Most recently, a 32-year-old man was shot and killed in Back of the Yards, police said.

A 23-year-old man was critically wounded in a West Ridge shooting, and a 38-year-old man was shot in his upper thigh in Austin, according to police.

Two teens were wounded in a shooting in Auburn-Gresham, police said. The shooting was near St. Sabina Church, hours before the church's neighborhood peace walk.

• At 2:25 a.m., a 26-year-old man was stopped at a red light in a sedan in the 2500 block of West 51st Street in Gage Park when a man in an SUV shot at him while yelling gang slogans, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with a wound to the back of his head, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 1:55 a.m., a 30-year-old man was on a sidewalk in the 10200 block of South Hoxie Avenue in South Deering when a blue sedan drove past and someone inside the car fired shots at the man, Sedevic said. The victim was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in stable condition with wounds to his upper right thigh, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shooting and an investigation is ongoing, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 11:55 p.m. Friday, a 47-year-old man was standing in an alley in the 6000 block of South Champlain Avenue in Woodlawn when a white sedan drove past and someone inside shot at the man, Sedevic said. The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Care in good condition with a wound to his right arm.

• At 9:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man was standing in the street on the 9400 block of South Elizabeth Street in Washington Heights when a gray sedan drove past and someone inside shot at the man, Sedevic said. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition with a wound to his right buttocks, Sedevic said.

• At 1:46 p.m., a 21-year-old man was on a sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Prairie Avenue in Washington Park when a person exited a car and shot at the man, Sedevic said. The shooter re-entered the car and drove away. He was shot in his back and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member and convicted felon, police said.

• At 9 a.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was outside in the 8700 block of South Wallace Street in Auburn-Gresham when a person in a dark-colored car shot at the man, Sedevic said. The victim was shot in his back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for these shootings, Sedevic said.
