Weekend Violence Leaves Five Dead, 30 Wounded, Police Say

CHICAGO — Shootings and stabbings this weekend left five people dead and at least 30 people wounded, including a 23-year-old man stabbed by his roommate in Hermosa Sunday night.

Most recently, a man in his 20s was shot in his wrist while driving on the Dan Ryan Expy. near 31st Street. He drove himself to Mercy Hospital after the 2:50 a.m. shooting, the Sun-Times reports.

Two people were wounded during a drive-by shooting in Auburn Gresham Sunday night. Around 11:25 p.m., the two were shot as they walked in the 8000 block of South Emerald Avenue by someone in a dark van, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in his body and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A 17-year-old boy was grazed in his leg and was treated and released on the scene, Cooper said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Sunday afternoon, three people were shot in Auburn Gresham and Garfield Park.

In Austin, two men were fatally shot early Sunday morning and at least 16 people were wounded from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.

From Friday night into Saturday afternoon, three people were killed and another 12 were wounded in shootings.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and an 18-year-old man was wounded in a Bridgeport shooting, a 27-year-old man was found dead after a shooting in Little Village and a 34-year-old man was shot to death while sitting in a parked car in Pullman.
