CHICAGO — Violence in Chicago this weekend left seven people dead and another 25 people wounded, police said.

Since Sunday afternoon, eight people were wounded in shootings mainly on the South and West sides. Three people were fatally shot, including two men shot just minutes apart in Austin. Hours earlier, a 25-year-old man was killed in Chatham.

Most recently, an 18-year-old man was shot in his left elbow while standing on the sidewalk in the 6700 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

After the 11:45 p.m. shooting, the man walked into Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

A little over an hour earlier, an off-duty officer shot a man during a robbery in Garfield Park.

Around 7:50 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in his leg in South Chicago. The man told police that he was standing on the street in the 8000 block of South Burnham Avenue when he heard shots, felt pain and then drove himself to South Shore Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

The man then became uncooperative with police and further investigation revealed the man had shot himself. The incident was reclassified as an accident, Cooper said.

Ten minutes earlier, a 36-year-old man was wounded in a Humboldt Park shooting.

Around 2:20 p.m., a 42-year-old was shot multiple times in Gage Park. The man was walking on the sidewalk in the 5400 block of South Albany Avenue when he was approached from behind by a man who shot him in his legs and back, Cooper said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Cooper said.
