Boy, 14, Among 14 Wounded, 3 Dead From Violence Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Continued violence marked the start to the final weekend in May: Since Friday night, three people are dead and 14 others were wounded in the violence, according to Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The most recent homicides happened in the early hours of Saturday, with a 25-year-old man shot twice in his chest during an argument in Lakeview around 2 a.m.

At 12:40 a.m., a man was stabbed to death while inside a Pilsen bar, police said.

Then, just after midnight, a 24-year-old man was shot while walking with his wife in the Little Village neighborhood.

• Saturday morning at 5:11 a.m., a 27-year-old man was in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshots to his body, Cooper said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital by friends who later drove away.

So far, police do not know the location where the man was shot, Cooper said.

• About an hour earlier, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the 1300 block of W. 87th St. in Auburn Gresham. According to Cooper, around 4 a.m. the boy was standing outside when a silver-colored vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire.

The boy was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition with a graze wound to his abdomen, Cooper said.

• At 3:41 a.m., a man of an unknown age was shot in the 3200 block of W. Lake St. in East Garfield Park. He was shot in his foot and suffered a graze wound to his hip, Cooper said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

• Shortly before, a man was shot around 3:15 a.m. in West Pullman. The man, whose age was not known yet to police, was shot in his upper right thigh while in the 12100 block of S. Front Ave., according to Cooper.

The man was taken to Christ Medical Center, but police did not know his condition as of Saturday morning.

• Another man was shot around 1:25 a.m. in the 6800 block of S. Ridgeland Ave. in South Shore. The man, 19, was discovered by police in the hallway of a building with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to Cooper.

• Just after midnight, three people in Englewood were shot in the 6400 block of South Eggleston Avenue. Two victims, a 31-year-old woman and a man, 39, were sitting in their vehicle talking to a friend, a 43-year-old man, who was standing outside the vehicle.

Around 12:20 a.m. a red sedan pulled up near the victims and someone from inside the car fired shots, striking all three victims, Cooper said.

The woman suffered gunshot wounds all over her body and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition. She is scheduled to be transferred later to Stroger Hospital.

One of the men, 43, was shot in his torso and taken to St. Bernard in serious condition, while the other man, 39, suffered a graze wound to his buttocks. He was taken to St. Bernard in good condition, according to Cooper.

• In South Shore, three people were shot late Friday night. Around 11:55 p.m., the three victims were sitting inside a van in the 6900 block of South Cornell Avenue when a man they did not know walked up to the van and fired shots into it. According to Cooper, the victims drove away and called police, while the shooter fled on foot going westbound.

A 25-year-old woman was shot in her leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. A man, 22, was also shot in his leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, according to Cooper.

A 25-year-old man was shot in both arms and one of his legs and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. Police say he is a documented gang member.

• At 11:07 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his leg in the 8900 block of South Houston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood. He was riding his bike when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Cooper.

He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in fair condition, she said.

• A 20-year-old man walked into Little Company of Mary Hospital around 10:30 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his leg, later telling police he was shot in the 9200 block of South Bishop Street in Washington Heights, Cooper said. He was listed in fair condition.

• At 8:40 p.m., a man, 24, was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

While in the 4900 block of South Winchester Avenue, the man heard shots and then realized he’d been struck in his foot, Cooper said.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

According to police, the victim is a documented gang member.
