STREETERVILLE — After nearly nine months of renovations, Harry's Cafe opened its doors this month.

The renovated Streeterville cafe, nestled inside Northwestern University's Law School, 357 E. Chicago Ave., boosts a new menu with made-to-order items and seating for up to 90 people.

"We had two chefs take six months creating the new menu," said Craig Rapacz, retail manager of the shop.

Folks can enjoy breakfast, lunch and afternoon dishes, including egg and cheddar croissants, vanilla waffles with seasonal berries, a smoked turkey sandwich and local artisan cheeses.

"On top of our regular dishes, we will be rotating dishes every two weeks,' Rapacz said. "Like today, we had red velvet waffles. In addition to food made in house, we wanted the food we brought in to be local as well. We are serving Metropolis Coffee, we buy local diary products, and our baked goods are also from local shops."

Harry's Cafe supervisor Lia Napolitano emphasized the fresh, local and made-to-order aspects of the menu.

"It's kind of like farm to table," Napolitano said. "Fresh, Chicago local and seasonal."

In a few weeks Harry's Cafe anticipates receiving its liquor license and will serve local brewed beers after 3 p.m. including Revolution's Anti-hero and Argus Ironhorse.

In addition to the upgrades to the menu, Harry's Cafe had added seating for up to 90 people indoor and on the outdoor patio, Napolitano said.

Christina Uballe, a cashier, who has been working at Harry's Cafe for five years was excited about the new renovations.

"Everyone loves it," Uballe said. "We have more food options including vegetarian and vegan. We have indoor and outdoor seating. Before the renovations, we had no available seating. Everyone's really happy about the changes."

In addition to serving its campus community, Harry's Cafe is open to the public from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays.
