NORWOOD PARK — Parents of Catholic school students won't have to trek to the suburbs anymore to outfit their children with the opening of a Dennis Uniform store in Norwood Park.

Dennis Uniform, which has been providing plaid jumpers, polo shirts and chinos for 90 years, chose to open its newest store at 7055 W. Higgins Ave. because it is so close to so many independent and Catholic schools on the Northwest Side, said Jennifer Roney, marketing and communications manager.

The company also has locations in Mount Prospect and Lombard in Illinois, officials said.

The number of charter schools on the Northwest Side could grow in the coming years, with Chicago Public Schools officials announcing Friday they had received proposals to open or expand 20 public charter schools and 12 public alternative schools.

In addition, Catholic education on the Far Northwest Side is changing, with St. Cornelius, Our Lady of Victory, St. Pascal and St. Tarcissus schools set to be consolidated during the next year, with the new school opening in fall 2016-17, according to the Archdiocese of Chicago.
