Pizza Metro II's Shuttered Ashland Outpost To Be Replaced by Pappanino's

NOBLE SQUARE — A family-run pizzeria based in the western suburbs plans to add a second spot along Ashland Avenue in May, replacing the shuttered Pizza Metro II.

Pappanino's Pizza in Westchester is expanding to 925 N. Ashland Ave., on the southeast corner of Walton Street and Ashland.

The pizzeria, which opened in 2010, specializes in stadium pizzas, which start at $21 and are 16 inches wide by 24 inches long. Pappanino's also offers hot wings, sandwiches and salads, as well as delivery and catering, according to owner Nick Mule.

"We are still waiting for licensing and should be getting ready to open in the next few weeks," Mule said Monday.

Mule, 52, came to Chicago from Italy in 1967. For several years, his family ran an outpost of Sorrento's Pizzeria at 5405 W. Diversey Ave., which closed after the building was sold to a developer, he said.

Once open, the second Pappanino's will bring seven to 10 new jobs to the neighborhood, Mule said.

Pizza Metro II closed last year and is not affiliated with the original Pizza Metro, which opened in 2003 at 1707 W. Division St. in Wicker Park, according to a worker.
