BRIDGEPORT — The Save-A-Lot grocery store in Bridgeport is closing Saturday, according to its owner.

For the last three years, the Sav-A-Lot grocery store has struggled to attract enough customers at its Bridgeport location, said manager and store owner Kishore Kumar.

The owner of the grocery store at 3418 S. Halsted St. blamed a lack of parking for the empty grocery aisles.

"We've been trying to secure a nearby lot to provide shoppers with parking for the last six years, but we've had no luck," said Kumar, who added customers became frustrated after receiving numerous parking tickets.

"They come in the store for two minutes, and when they get to their car, they already have a [parking] ticket," Kumar said. "I really feel bad because we all work hard here, and we have great prices, but parking has really affected business."

Kumar said the building's landlord hasn't disclosed who will occupy the Save-A-Lot location when it closes.
