WEST LOOP — A 29-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting near Sawtooth Restaurant and Lounge early Saturday.

The shooting was the latest in a series of incidents near the nightclub, a situation that prompted a neighborhood meeting in January.

At about 1:50 a.m. Saturday, the man was standing in the 1300 block of West Randolph Street when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. The shots were fired near the front of Sawtooth, a restaurant/nightclub at 1359 W. Randolph St., a source confirmed.

The man was shot in his thigh, back and left elbow and an acquaintance drove him to Rush Hospital. The victim was later transfered to John H. Stroger Hospital  where he was listed in critical condition, Estrada said.

Another man was injured in a shooting near Sawtooth in December.

At around 1:25 a.m. on Dec.  28, someone shot a 35-year-old man as he was walking on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of West Randolph Street. Two men approached him and opened fire striking him in his left thight, according to police.

In March of 2013,  a 26-year-old man was shot in the leg in an early morning shooting outside Sawtooth. More than two dozen police cars responded to the shooting because of a fight that reportedly broke out about the same time.

In January, the Randolph Fulton Market Association held a meeting to address concerns about crime in the 1300 block of West Randolph Street. At the meeting, the group's executive director Roger Romanelli cited crimes occurring near Sawtooth as a concern.
