UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — The Chicago Housing Authority will seek input from the University Village community on the future of the Roosevelt Square development Wednesday.

Area residents are invited to weigh in on the redevelopment of the massive Chicago Housing Authority property at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of Smyth Elementary School, 1059 W. 13th St. The 35-block Roosevelt Square revamp was halted during the economic downturn.

The CHA is also asking nearby residents to share their vision for Roosevelt Square online.

At the end of October, SOS Children's Villages Illinois, a nonprofit that works with foster kids, opened 14 new homes that will house up to 84 children at the site. The homes were built over the past year in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of West Washburne Avenue.

In June, a downtown architecture firm was chosen to lead the Roosevelt Square redevelopment.

Plans call for a mixed-income community to be developed at the site. Only about 600 of the planned 2,441 units have been built since 2002.
