CHICAGO — The first full weekend of March turned out be a warm and violent one that left five people dead and at least 15 people hospitalized.

The violent weekend began around 4:15 p.m. Friday when a 57-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and 42-year-old man were wounded in separate shootings only minutes apart in Englewood and South Shore. The violence finally subsided about 52 hours later when a teen boy was shot in Ashburn.

Around 9 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot while sitting in the front passenger seat of an SUV heading north in the 7900 block of South Kostner Avenue. As the car reached a corner a man on the corner opened fire, striking the teen in his right leg, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

Around 6:30 p.m., a 25-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy were found fatally shot in Woodlawn in what appears to be a murder-suicide, police said.

An hour earlier, two people were shot in an apparent drive-by in Washington Park.

Around 5:50 p.m., a 31-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were shot while standing in the 200 block of East 58th Street, Estrada said.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized after being shot in his right leg. The 44-year-old woman was treated on the scene and released, Estrada said.

A 24-year-old man was hospitalized in good condition at Christ Hospital after a gang-related shooting hours earlier in Auburn Gresham.

Around 12:20 p.m., the man was standing in the 1000 block of West 89th Street when two men got out of a car, walked up to him and opened fire, shooting him in his left arm and right leg, Estrada said.

Between Friday night and Sunday afternoon, at least 8 people were shot and another two were stabbed — one fatally.

Just after 1 a.m. Saturday, two men were fatally shot while sitting in a car in the 1000 block of West 18th Street in Pilsen.
