Man In Black Robs 2 Wednesday Night In Hyde Park: U. of C. Police

HYDE PARK — A man dressed in black allegedly is behind two armed robberies within minutes of each other in Hyde Park on Wednesday night, according to University of Chicago police.

U. of C. police sent out an alert after two people reported being robbed by a 5-foot-6 middle-aged black man dressed all in black with a handgun.

The first alleged robbery happened at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday when an armed man came up behind someone walking down the 5800 block of South Harper Avenue and demanded the person’s valuables.

Five minutes later, another person one block over, in the 5800 block of South Blackstone Avenue reported being hit from behind with the butt of the gun and having two of bags taken by a man matching the description of the first robber.

University police said the person who was hit declined medical attention.

University police said they are increasing patrols in the area and working with the Chicago Police Department to investigate the robberies.
