Three Dead, 32 Wounded Over the Weekend

CHICAGO — Two people were shot Sunday night, bringing the weekend total of shooting victims to 35 across the city, including three who died from their wounds.

The most recent shooting happened just after 1 p.m. after an argument in Auburn Gresham, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Around 11:15 p.m., a 33-year-old man was walking in the 1600 block of West 81st Street when someone pulled up in a dark SUV and began arguing with him. During the argument, the man pulled out a gun and shot the 33-year-old man in his buttocks, Sedevic said.

He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in stable condition. The shooter drove away in his car after the shooting and no one is in custody, Sedevic said.

About two hours earlier, a 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in Grand Crossing.

Around 9:15 p.m., man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7500 block of South Dorchester Avenue when two men walked up and opened fire. He was struck in the leg and taken to Jackson Park Hospital in stable condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Sunday afternoon, two people were injured in shootings across the city.

Nine people were shot overnight Saturday, in addition to five during daylight hours Saturday. Fourteen people were shot between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Three people were fatally shot including 15-year-old Demario Bailey, killed during an Englewood robbery Saturday; 26-year-old Tyrece Stornes, found fatally shot in a car outside his home in Roseland; and Rolando Leon, who was fatally shot while in car with a child in Humboldt Park Friday night.
