LAKEVIEW — Growing up the daughter of a Navy pilot, Liz Lally said her family never stayed in one place for too long.

So Lally developed a unique coping mechanism: dog walking.

"Being the new person in the neighborhood, it was always just a great way to meet my neighbors," Lally said. "I'd put up fliers around the neighborhood and let people know I'd be willing to walk their dogs for basically allowance money."

Today, Lally's hoping to channel her childhood passion into a full-time career. The Lakeview resident recently left her corporate advertising job to launch Sidewalk Pup, a dog-walking and pet-sitting company based in Lakeview.

"The corporate life — sitting behind a desk — wasn't really my alley," Lally said. "Because I enjoy watching dogs and playing with animals so much ... I decided to pursue something I was really passionate about."

Sidewalk Pup offers 30-minute weekday walks that range from $12 to $14. And if this winter is anything like last, Lally will also offer indoor play sessions so pets can still get exercise in sub-zero temps.

Pet-sitting and cat care are arranged on a custom basis and could include walks, feeding or playtime, depending on what each client needs.

Lally said she hopes to offer a personalized, local approach. She always leaves handwritten notes for pet owners, detailing any behavioral issues or funny moments.

"I also like to send pictures when they do something cute," Lally said. "I snap a photo and text it to the client. ... I would love if someone did that throughout the day with [my dog] Charlie."

For now, Lally is serving only the Lakeview area. She hopes to eventually expand and is certified in pet CPR.
