Chicago Violence Leaves Three Dead at Least 31 Wounded Over Weekend

CHICAGO — At least 31 people were injured in shootings over the weekend, including eight people who were shot since Sunday morning.

Three people were fatally shot this weekend including an 11-year-old girl, a 24-year-old man in Brighton Park and a 21-year-old man fatally in Austin.

In the most recent shooting, a 40-year-old man was shot in his neck in the 11100 block of South Princeton Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Monday. The man drove himself to Roseland Hospital, where his condition stabilized, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

Two men were shot at 9:48 p.m. Sunday in Bronzeville. They were standing in the 3800 block of South Indiana Avenue when someone opened fire. Both were taken to Northwestern Hospital, Sedevic said.

The 29-year-old man was in stable condition after he was shot his arm and a 30-year-old man was in good condition after being shot in his leg, Sedevic said.

Around 8:10 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot while standing on the corner in the 4600 block of South Vincennes Avenue in Grand Boulevard. The man told officers someone driving an older car shot him. He was taken to Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound in his left thigh and was listed in stable condition, Sedevic said.

Around 7:23 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot during a drive-by in the 4500 block of South Lamon Avenue. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition after being shot in his back and foot, Sedevic said.

Two people were shot about two hours earlier while walking in the 5700 block of South Michigan Avenue in Washington Park. The shooting occurred at 5:34 p.m. Sunday. A 21-year-old man was shot in his leg and listed in good condition at Stroger Hospital. A 16-year-old boy was shot in his shoulder and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, Sedevic said.

Early Sunday, a 23-year-old woman was shot in her back in a possible drive-by. The woman was shot around 5:45 a.m. in the 8500 block of South Burnham Avenue. More information about the shooting was not available, Sedevic said.

Saturday night into Sunday morning, two people were fatally shot and 11 others were wounded in shootings.

At least 15 people were shot from Friday night into Saturday, including 11-year-old Shamiya Adams, who was fatally shot at a sleepover Friday before a Church picnic.

Friday, five people were shot, among them a 12-year-old girl shot in East Garfield Park.
