ROGERS PARK — Bridgett Scarborough of Giving Tree Toys promises to not stock "trendy" toys in her new store at 7020 N. Clark St.

The early-education consultant said she's bringing back the "classics" — puppets, building blocks, puzzles — that aren't as popular with today's digital generation.

"Not only are the toys fun, they’re educational as well," she said inside the shop Thursday, a day before opening. "The toys are carefully selected to really help with the development of children, as well as increasing family involvement."

Scarborough said she grew up in Rogers Park, graduating from nearby Eugene Field Elementary School. Throughout her career, she has worked at the Howard Area Community Center and with teachers from Rogers Park's Kilmer Elementary School.

So she chose to open her toy store in the community she calls home.

"I thought it was a need because we don't have any toy stores here," she said.

The store opens Friday.

Regular business hours will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays.
