WICKER PARK — Make room for more Brambleberry Crisp.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream, the Ohio company known for its rich, artisanal ice cream in inventive flavors such as the aforementioned fruity one, has signed a lease on a 2,300-square-foot space at 1505 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to building owner Steve Lipe of Lipe Property Co.

This will be the second Jeni's scoop shop in Chicago. The first opened in September at 3404 N. Southport Ave. in Lakeview and does a brisk business in $5 scoops and $12 pints.

Though a Jeni's spokesman said he couldn't confirm the news "just yet," Lipe said the new Jeni's location is part of a larger development that will connect to a second building with additional retail space at 1501 N. Milwaukee Ave.

It's on a stretch that's fast filling up with food options, among them Umami Burger and a second outpost of XOCO, Rick Bayless' popular torta restaurant. Max's Wine Dive and Native Foods also are on block.

"Jeni's, in my opinion, is the perfect fit with all these food tenants," Lipe said.

Jeni Britton Bauer opened her first Jeni's in Columbus in 2002. There are now 17 locations in six states.

Janet Fuller admits that it might be on the pricey side, but Jeni's new location could become a popular spot:
