WEST LOOP — New York-based bakery chain Le Pain Quotidien is on the verge of opening its three Chicago locations, beginning with a May opening in the West Loop.

Originally started in Brussels in 1990, the company's headquarters are now in New York. Around 200 Le Pain Quotidien restaurants are open in 17 countries, including franchises.

The bakery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, in additional to selling many of its more popular items wholesale.

Le Pain's West Loop location, 135 N. Clinton St., opens Thursday. Menu items include tartines — open-faced Belgian-style sandwiches — in addition to salads, quiche and a variety of house-made desserts. Le Pain also serves wine and beer.

The bakery's Lincoln Park store, 1000 W. Armitage Ave., opens May 22 from 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m., and a Gold Coast location, 10 E. Delaware Pl., will open July 6, hours TBD.
