CHICAGO — Officers stopped a suburban man as he was carjacking a 69-year-old woman in Little Village Monday morning, police said.

Darius Walker, 24, of the 3900 block of West Warren Avenue in Bellwood, was charged with felony aggravated carjacking with a firearm and felony attempt aggravated carjacking with a firearm.

Police said Walker first tried to rob a 66-year-old woman about 10 a.m. Monday as she was sitting in her car in the 2800 block of West Cermak Road.

But officers were nearby patrolling the area, and Walker ran across the street while the woman flagged down officers, according to police. She pointed Walker out right after he got into a gray Oldsmobile, police said.

The officers followed the Oldsmobile until it stopped in a nearby parking lot, police said. The officers saw Walker get out of the car and run off, police said.

The officers went to the car and detained everyone inside, two women and a man, before realizing that they were victims, police said.

The driver, a 69-year-old woman, told officers that Walker pulled a handgun on her, got into the car and ordered her to drive, according to police.

Officers eventually found Walker and arrested him. They also recovered a gun, police said.

Walker is scheduled to appear in bond court on Tuesday.
