RIVER NORTH — Less than six months after opening his flagship Gold Coast location, restaurateur Craig Bernstein is bringing Doc B's Fresh Kitchen to River North.

The restaurant will open inside the Shops at North Bridge at 55 E. Grand Ave. June 1, according to a release issued by Bernstein Wednesday.

The 3,700-square-foot space includes a seasonal patio that seats 14 and enough tables for 120 diners indoors.

Open for lunch and dinner, the River North location will feature the same "straightforward American" menu as the Gold Coast location and a similar front window that opens onto the sidewalk in warmer months.

Chef Ed McIntosh will oversee both kitchens. He's currently developing additional menu items for the new location, again partnering with local suppliers Bow Truss coffee and Publican Quality Meats.

While Bernstein's Gold Coast outpost courted area residents and aimed to be "a real neighborhood restaurant," the owner said the River North location will be geared toward "people that live, work and play in the neighborhood, but also tourists who are interested in a truly local dining experience."

As at the original Doc B's, the River North restaurant will allow customers to order at the front counter and seat themselves, armed with a coaster that contains a tracking device, syncing with RFID chips embedded in tables to direct servers straight to their customers.

Doc B's plans to open a third Chicago location before expanding nationwide.
