LINCOLN SQUARE — Murders in Chicago are down 26 percent compared with the same time last year, but area neighborhoods have already logged as many homicides in 2013 as in all of 2012, according to a comprehensive breakdown of the city's murders published by DNAinfo.com Chicago.
The timeline shows three murders in Albany Park, two fewer than 2012's total; two in Irving Park, one more than in 2012; and one in Lincoln Square, which didn't see a single murder in 2012.
Victims include 35-year-old Claudia Martinez of Albany Park, whose death in an apartment fire was ruled a homicide.
In May, Lincoln Square residents were shocked to learn of the stabbing death of 5-month-old Isaac Bolanos, killed by his mother at the Diplomat Motel in an apparent murder-suicide attempt.
The motels "being clustered here, it invites more bad business than anything positive," one resident said at the time. "It doesn't invite anything good."
