CHICAGO - An Albany Park woman's death in a fire was ruled a homicide Friday by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Claudia Martinez, 35, suffered fatal burns from a fire in her apartment in the 4800 block of North Kenneth Avenue Wednesday, according to the medical examiner's office.

The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m. Martinez and a 6-year-old girl were taken from the scene to nearby hospitals, police said.

Martinez was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about 6 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

The 6-year-old girl was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition, police said.
