UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A University of Illinois at Chicago faculty member was the victim of a strong-arm carjacking reported on campus Tuesday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m. Tuesday, UIC Police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery that occurred on the third level of the UIC South Wood Street parking structure located at 1100 S. Wood St. on campus, according to a UIC crime alert.

The victim, a UIC faculty member, reported that he was approached from behind by two offenders and punched, police said. The offenders then took the keys to his car and fled westbound in the victim's black 2015 Toyota Camry. The car's license plate number is: 4899511.

The suspects were described by the victim as two African-American males, one with dreadlocked hair and dark clothing, police said. No weapons were seen by the victim.

UIC Police are leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the crime should call 312-996-2830.

The car jacking follows a number of recent "bump-and-run" carjackings reported in the West Loop, West Town and on the Near West Side.

As of Friday, Chicago Police confirmed nine such recent robberies, as well as two unsuccessful attempts.

The victims include Chicago Bear Kevin White's girlfriend, who was driving his Maserati Thursday in the 400 block of North May Street when she was targeted. That car was later found.

On Saturday morning, a 47-year-old man was shot by a man in River West who was trying to carjack his vehicle.
