LOGAN SQUARE — For #ThrowbackThursday, check out Sawyer Avenue circa 1908.

An old photograph, taken in 1908, shows Sawyer looking north from Altgeld Street, which was called Dunning back then.

Here's what Logan Square Preservation has to say about the photo:

This image of Sawyer looking north from Altgeld (then known as Dunning) dates from around 1908. The Evensen Grocery is in the corner building which no longer has a storefront. The roof on its decorative turret has also been removed. The street light in the foreground is one of a type used throughout the neighborhood in those early days that were first introduced as gaslights. Just out of frame today is the site of the Altgeld Corner Farm, which replaced a one-story commercial building.

DNAinfo is partnering with Logan Square Preservation on a "Throwback Thursday" post each week. All photos are the property of Logan Square Preservation unless otherwise indicated.
