CHICAGO — Two men have been charged in the strong-arm robbery of a woman in Lakeview this week.

Police say at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Steven Thompson and Sadarian Washington were in the 800 block of West Buckingham Place when they walked up to a 23-year-old woman.

Thompson, 26, battered the woman while Washington, 23, "forcefully" grabbed her purse, police said.

It is unclear when the men were arrested, but upon being taken into custody, Washington began fighting with officers, police said.

He caused damage to a police squad car and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to treat a cut to his hand, police said.

Washington, of the 9000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, has been charged with one felony count of robbery, one felony count of aggravated battery to an officer and one felony count of criminal damage to property.

Thompson, of Joliet, was charged with one felony count of robbery.

Both men are due in bond court Thursday.
