Get Free Backpacks, School Supplies At Imani Boyette's West Side Bash

By Jen Sabella | August 16, 2016 9:21am

CHICAGO — Having the best back to school swag is important to kids, but it adds up for parents.

For folks who need some help sending their kids to school in style, the Chicago Sky's Imani Boyette is stepping up. The WNBA star and mental health advocate is hosting a Back to School Bash in North Lawndale this weekend, where she'll be giving away 250+ backpacks filled with school supplies to kids who need them.

The first 250 kids ages 6 and up who show up Saturday at the YWCA North Lawndale, 3717 W. Arthington St., will receive backpacks filled with school supplies.

Those who register online in advance of this weekend's event will be entered to win special backpacks: Adidas originals filled with even more supplies, Chicago Sky swag and two tickets to a Sky game. You can enter that raffle here

The event, which runs at the YWCA from 10 a.m. until noon, will also feature neighborhood organizations that can offer help and advice to parents and students. Never Go Without, an organization dedicated to helping women get feminine hygeine supplies, will also be on hand to hook up students with tampons and pads.

Boyette and some of her WNBA teammates will also sign autographs and meet kids and parents.

Boyette, who is in the midst of her first season with the Sky, is passionate about helping others and hopes this is just the beginning of her work in Chicago.

"As I get bigger [and more well-known],  I'll be able to do more," she said.

RSVP to the event and enter to win the special Adidas swag bags here.
