IRVING PARK — California Park is in the running to receive $20,000 to improve its basketball courts.

Whether the park gets the money or not is in your hands.

The park is one of three in Chicago eligible for a grant through the "Parks Build Community" program. The winner will be determined by whichever receives the most votes from the public.

Voting is open through April 30 at NRPA.org/BeInspired, which folks can visit daily.

If California Park, 3843 N. California Ave., gets the cash, the funds will be used to revamp the park's pair of outdoor basketball courts, adding an asphalt layer, color coat and striping atop the existing concrete.

Last year, Parks Build Community awarded $20,000 to Skinner Park for a demonstration garden.
