CHICAGO — One man was killed and another wounded Sunday afternoon in a Back of the Yards shooting.

Ramone Godfrey, 19, of the 5300 block of South King Drive in Washington Park, was fatally shot in his back, authorities said. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:53 p.m.

The other man, 22, was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition after he was shot in his chest and arm.

According to police, the men were in a car driven by a third man when someone shot at the group near 47th Street and Ashland Avenue about 3:30 p.m.

The 22-year-old man got out of the car there, but the other two men continued driving eastbound.

An ambulance took the 22-year-old to Stroger, while another ambulance arrived at 47th and Wallace streets in Canaryville to find the car stopped and Godfrey dead.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Meanwhile, residents waited along police tape surrounding the crime scene, barred from entry to a string of businesses on Ashland Avenue.

A man operating a food pushcart nearby said he heard three shots fired but saw little else.
