CHICAGO — The Chicago Teachers Union strike is no laughing matter — but some of their signs sure make it hard not to giggle.

Teachers, who are holding a "day of action" by walking off the job Friday, are striking outside schools and holding protests and marches. They're using the day to criticize Gov. Bruce Rauner and Mayor Rahm Emanuel and protest midyear cuts, among other things, but more than a few sported funny signs.

Janneth Ballesteros, a junior at Juarez in Pilsen, said she made the "Rahm Hates Puppies" sign in art class.

"Everyone was making school-related [signs] and I thought I'd make something poking fun at him," she said of the mayor.

While Ballesteros said she doesn't really think Emanuel hates puppies, she does believe that the mayor doesn't care about the students attending public schools in Pilsen.

"He doesn't have to go to a public school, he doesn't know [what we're facing]. Even something like toilet paper, we miss toilet paper in our school bathrooms sometimes. And I don't want them to cut my art class, it's something I really enjoy. Without that, I can't express myself," she said.
