WICKER PARK — As the first signs of spring herald the rapid approach of festival season, punk rocker Andrew WK is calling for the city's greatest minds to converge for a grand Chicago Pizza Summit this April.

Billed as a ticketed, all-you-can-eat food fest, the summit will convene "12 of Chicago's favorite pizza institutions and cooks" to Chop Shop, 2033 W. North Ave., on Sunday, April 3. The precise lineup, WK said, will be announced later.

From his perch in New York, the rocker explained in the event's description that he was duty-bound to call the summit after he spotted a crisis of leadership in the city.

"While gourmet mac and cheese, donuts, bacon and beyond are all rightfully respected in their own way, there is nothing associated with Windy City eats quite like pizza," wrote WK, a man who takes pizza very seriously. "Something that is so synonymous with Chicago cannot be relegated to just another simple food fest."

Tickets to the Chicago Pizza Summit will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at emptybottle.com for $35 each. One ticket entitles each guest to unlimited pizza, five Old Style beers and "a limited edition commemorative Old Style pizza shaped plate."

Guests can sign up to attend a 2-5 p.m. session, or a 6-9 p.m. session.
