CHICAGO — With the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field, the Cubs hit a major league postseason-record six home runs to beat the Cardinals 8-6 in Game 3 of the teams' best-of-five National League Division Series.

The Cubs, who grabbed a 2-1 series lead, can clinch their first trip to the National League Championship Series with a win over St. Louis on Tuesday on the North Side.

Dexter Fowler's blast to right in the eighth inning was the last of six Cubs shots into the bleachers.

Earlier, Jorge Soler hit a bomb to left in the sixth inning.

Anthony Rizzo's monster home run in the fifth inning gave the Cubs a 5-2 lead.

Also in the fifth inning, Kris Bryant hit a two-run home run.

Starlin Castro's home run in the fourth inning tied the game at 2-2.

The Cardinals scored twice in the fourth inning to grab a 2-1 lead off Jake Arrieta. They were the first runs Arrieta had allowed since mid-September.

Kyle Schwarber's home run in the second inning gave the Cubs a 1-0 edge.

The Cubs hosted a playoff game for the first time since 2008.

It's the first postseason meeting between the Cubs and Cardinals.
