CHICAGO — From pajamas to cheetahs to disco balls, the Chicago Cubs have had some fun this year. With a heart-wrenching 8-3 loss to the New York Mets in Game 4 of the NLCS, the season is now over, but the GIFs will last a lifetime.
Beyond all the phenomenal baseball played by this team, Cubs fans (and baseball fans across the country) were enraptured by players who clearly loved having fun and hanging out with each other. A young, loose group of players — with Joe Maddon at the helm encouraging them to do their thing — have lit up social media all season with sometimes goofy, sometimes bizarre and usually funny antics.
Of course, their work on the field has given us such memorable hits like Kyle Schwarber's monster home run, a postseason game where a franchise-record six Cubbies went yard, a truly wild Wild Card game night and — best of all — a postseason series win over arch-rivals St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite the Cubs' sweep in their first NLCS since 2003, there is much to look forward to. Here's a recap of the good times that our boys can look back at as they — along with all of us — wait 'til next year.
