How Far Do Lakeview's Borders Extend? Certainly Not to Cicero Avenue

LAKEVIEW — More than 500 people have drawn their best guess of neighborhood borders for Lakeview, Wrigleyville and Boystown.

Given that the city's last attempt to pinpoint neighborhood borders was in 1978, it's not surprising that residents are a little fuzzy on cut-off points.

But Cicero Avenue? Peterson Avenue? Really?

The city's Office of Tourism defines Lakeview borders generally as Irving Park Road, Ravenswood Avenue, Diversey Parkway and the lake, with a small notch on the north border extending along Clark Street to Montrose Avenue.

Wrigleyville is mapped out between Irving Park Road, Southport Avenue, Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue, with an extra tail extending along Clark and Sheffield ending at Newport Avenue.

Farther east, Boystown is defined as the area south of where North Broadway and Halsted Street meet, with borders along those streets ending at Belmont Avenue.

Wrigleyville borders drawn by DNAinfo readers.

Readers mostly had Lakeview's north and south borders down, but only about half knew to set the west boundary at Ravenswood Avenue. About 200 people extended the line to Damen Avenue, with half going even farther to Western Avenue.

A small fraction extended borders as far as Cicero Avenue on the west and Peterson Avenue to the north, encroaching on areas claimed by Uptown, Edgewater, West Ridge, North Center, Lincoln Square and Irving Park.

Boystown borders drawn by DNAinfo readers.

Of the 75 or so readers who drew Wrigleyville borders, most drew it between Grace Street, Southport Avenue, Roscoe Street and Fremont Street.

That leaves Cubbie territory clashing with Boystown, which about 80 readers drew mostly in line with the Office of Tourism's borders.

One lone reader, however, claimed Boystown extended to Fullerton Parkway.
